Founded by fashion consultant and buyer, Nikie Lundquist, Sigrid Maria launched in 2019 as a curated collection of hand-picked and unique vintage pieces for women of all ages. The name, Sigrid Maria, derives from Lundquist’s middle names and is a subtle nod to her Swedish roots.

Nikie grew up in Stockholm in the early 2000s, when buying anything pre-owned was considered uncool. However, Nikie’s passion for vintage pieces, and things that had a story to tell, continued to drive her to trawl second-hand shops and antique markets at any opportunity. It was the stories behind the items she found, and the unrivalled quality, that turned a growing personal collection into the launch of her own vintage business.

Since then, Sigrid Maria has developed organically into a slow-fashion brand. After many years of sourcing and collecting vintage, Nikie decided to recreate the magic for the contemporary consumer. She brought everything she loves about vintage to these items; timeless style, sustainable high quality materials and local craftsmanship.

Each item from the Sigrid Maria Collection is made-to-order or produced in small quantities in East London using vintage, deadstock and locally sourced fabrics. The pieces are handmade in limited quantities depending on the fabric, and each item takes around 5-9 hours to make, excluding the initial pattern. The process for each piece includes the designing, fabric, trim and button sourcing, fabric cutting, sewing, stitching, cutting buttonholes, steaming, labelling, packaging and sending of each individual item, along with a hand written note.

ETHOS

Sigrid Maria represents taking fashion back to the era where clothes were treasured, and away from the trends of fast consumption, to something more meaningful. Investing in a few high quality pieces, that you might save up for and really cherish and wear for a long time and perhaps even pass on. With Sigrid Maria we want to put the value back into the craft and to the people who make our clothes.

All our pieces are handmade by our seamstress in East London, and the entire design process and material sourcing is also made here. The items from the Sigrid Maria Collection each take around 6 hours to create for a blouse and 9 hours for dress, excluding the initial pattern. We hold very little stock as most of the items in the collection are made-to-order.

We source fabric in very small quantities so for many styles will be one-off’s or limited edition. The fabric we use include vintage fabrics, deadstock and end of roll fabric all sourced from local suppliers, and we only use natural materials that will last such as raw silk, linen and cotton. Our buttons are vintage natural pearl and sourced in the UK, and our clothing labels are recycled satin, also sourced in the UK.

CARING FOR YOUR GARMENT

Cotton

The best way to wash cotton is to hand wash them in cold water with a mild detergent. If using the washing machine, always use the hand wash or delicate cycle and use a mesh wash bag to protect the garment from snagging and buttons from getting damaged. Tana Lawn cotton is well known for being fine yet durable with a silk-like feel.

Silk

Do not wash the silk in a washing machine or use dryer. Our raw silk is handmade and the vivid colours can bleed if washed in hot temperatures and heat can damage the silk and make it dull. The best option is to air dry, and spot treat any stains by dabbing gently with a gentle natural stain remover. If you must wash, please use cold water and a gentle soap, and do not wring the item but dry it by laying the garment flat on a clean towel whilst gently pressing out the water and letting it dry naturally. Dry clean if necessary.

Linen

Linen items can be both hand washed and machine washed - either of these methods won’t stretch or shrink your linens as its of a durable nature, although hand washing is preferred. Wash on a delicate cycle using a mesh wash bag as for cottons and if handwashing make sure to not wring, twist or scrub the fabric as it can get damaged. To prevent creasing you can hang the item or lie flat whilst still damp and steam or iron out any creases once it has dried.
